Namyangju, key distribution base, is neighboring with Pocheon, Uijeongbu to the north, Gapyeong and Yangpyeong to the east, Guri and Seoul to the west, and Hanam to the south. It occupies an area of 460.4 square kilometer, which consists of 4.6% of Gyeonggi Province. The population of the city is around 485,964 with 178,248 households as of July, 2007.
Influenced by a typical continental climate, Namyangju especially has a huge temperature gap of the summer and the winter due to the heavy climatic extremity, indicating 11.8¡É of its yearly mean temperature. The average in January is -8.5¡É, and the average in August is 29.9¡É. Looking at the rainfall, it was 1,347.8mm averagely.
As a strategic city in the northeastern part of the Capital Circle, its most significant merit is that it has connection with any part of the nation. Guri - Pangyo Expressway starts in Namyangju. And by the year of 2004, subway line had been extended to Tokso railway station. According to the middle and long term city development plan, Namyangju is expected to have vast room for advancement.
In January, 2007, the number of factories registered in Namyangju was 1,180, and the employees numbered 13,522. In terms of business type, furniture manufacturing has dominated the most, and is followed by textile, metal assembly, base metal, and machinery industries.? In 2006 alone, Namyangju¡¯s trade volume recorded US$378 Million with US$118Million in export and US$260Million in import. Its favorable condition of location and convenient traffic network enable the city to house hi-tech industries.
Adjacent to Seoul, vegetables, flowers, lucrative crops are raised with advanced agricultural technology. Besides orchid, Meokgol pear, Yongji mushroom, and grapes are main sources of income to the farmers. Automated green house, floriculture complex are rapidly growing in numbers, which will increase Namyangju's agricultural competitiveness. |

Namyangju is situated in a mountainous region with numerous mountains higher than 800m above sea level including Mt. Cheonmasan and Mt. Chungnyeongsan. Also, Along with scenic mountains, Bukhangang River makes this city a popular tourist attraction for one-day getaways from Seoul. The major tourist attractions are Gwangreung Royal Tomb, Hongreung Royal Tomb, Yureung Royal Tomb, Sareung Royal Tomb, Paldang Resort Complex, Studio Complex, Bamseomdo Island, and Moran Art Gallery. |
