Located at the north east of Gyeonggi-do, Gapyeong-gun is bordering Hwacheon, Chuncheon and Hongcheon to the east and Pocheon, Namyangju and Yangpyeong to the southwest.
It covers a total area of approximately 843.26 square kilometers, which consists of 8.27% of Gyeonggi Province, and has a population of 55,540 with 1 town and 5 subcounties.
Gapyeong-gun is outstretched over the northeast of the Gwangju mountains to the southwest with Eungbong Peak(1436m), Chotdaebong Peak(1125m), Gadeoksan Mountain(858m), Bukbaesan Mountain(867m). There flows Bukhangang River through from the east to the west.
Meanwhile, flowing from the north to the west and joining into Namhangang River, Gapyeongcheon Stream and Jojongcheon Stream flowing along slopes of the mountains form plenty of spacious flats in the area. Gapyeong and Cheongpyeong are located at the confluence of both rivers and Bukhangang River, where a 15km of valley was formed between both regions. In that area, Gyeongchun Nat¡¯l road and railway have been constructed as an important transportation site from the old times. |

Influenced by a typical continental climate as a mountainous inland district, Gapyeong-gun especially has a huge temperature gap of the summer and the winter due to the heavy climatic extremity, indicating 11.2¡É of its yearly mean temperature. The average in January is £1.1¡É, and the average in August is 24.7¡É. The average amount of precipitation over the year is 1,155.8mm.
As a gate in the north eastern linking region of Seoul and Chuncheon, harmonized with beautiful rivers and forests, the district is directly connected to large metropolitan commercial markets such as Chuncheon, Seoul and Guri, and preserves a lot of tourist attractions.
The studded peaks with valleys are famous for their beauty. Gapyeong is especially known for its eight scenic landscapes including Cheongpyeong hoban Lake. |
